You may remember I took a trip out to Joshua Tree National Park with a pit stop at the nearby Salton Sea last year with buddies Mike Olbinski, Chris Frailey, Heath O’Fee, Chris D’Angelis, and Doug Wise. You can catch some of the pics here and here.
The Salton Sea is such a cool place to take pictures. Although it’s about a 3.5 – 4 hour drive from Scottsdale, it is well worth the trip. It is a cool place for all types of photography from commercial advertising shoots to wildlife photos. However, the one thing that it begs for is long exposures to turn the water and clouds into dreamy smoothness. For this photo I used my trusty 10 stop ND filter by B+W. I recently learned a new technique from Joel Grimes while he was on Creative Live’s Photoshop Week for long exposure photography that I am excited to try. Stay tuned for a future tutorial and review of this technique… as well as a few more gems from Salton.
