Dylan | Kids Pictures

As some of you know, we have 3 kids, 5 1/2, 3, and 1, and all boys.  Dylan aka “The D-Machine” just turned three a few weeks back, and I meant to post this then but I forgot. It sucks to be the middle child.

Kids Pics

Tip:  When taking pictures of children, or anyone for that matter… even seniors or engagement pics, and you are only using the available light, try switching into spot metering mode, or center weighted.  This places the metering point at the same place as your focus point, which should be on the eyes for a portrait.  Next, dial in your exposure compensation to +1/3 of a stop.  This will slightly overexpose the skin tones and make the skin appear a tad brighter and more silky.  Going only +1/3 should not result in any blown highlights on the face, but may do so on the hair (if blond) or clothes (if white).  Usually you can knock these down enough in Lightroom with the Recovery slider so that it is not a problem.

Great tip, and I’ll have to keep the +1/3 setting when doing portraits!

Very sharp picture! What kind of camera did you use as it looks like it was taken with something that was probably a bit more than I can afford.
