Get Your Kicks… On Route 66

Part 4…

Once we finished in Two Guns, we headed east down I-40 to Winslow.  You got it, THE “Standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona such a fine sight to see; Its a girl my Lord, in a flat bed Ford slowin down to have a look at me” Winslow, Arizona.  Yes we stood on the corner, yes we saw the flat bed Ford, and yes we took it easy, but that is a different story for a different day.

Route 66

Once we left Winslow and re-fueled (pizza, beer, and gas) in Flagstaff, we made the trek to our final destination… the infamous Grand Falls.  The road out there is truly desolate and very much like the road in Se7en.  We were hoping to NOT find Gyneth’s head in a box along the way, and luckily we didn’t.  Arizona has such a varied landscape.  We have sand dunes, we have rugged mountains, we have canyons (small and Grand), we have vast Pine forests, we have the Sonoran Desert… and we have the high plains.

Man, love that Route 66 shot. The marking really pops off the road.

Very cool shots, both of them. I like the way you road leads you through the image in the bottom shot, and I like the black and white and strong vignette of the first image.

Previous Posting Dudes & Dudettes….hate to pop your nostalgic bubbles…but I grew up in Winslow AZ and traveled Rt 66 many times. It sucked & was basically Death Highway 66. Wouldn’t mind running it now but….memories? Not good. Many humans died on that highway & Rt 40 is the best thing that could have happened….other than bypassing the “girl in a flatbed Ford”…. who I actually grew up with. Every time I made the trip from Winslow to either Flagstaff or Holbrook was a white knuckle trip…depending on who was driving. Any one who tells you different is not being truthful.
